The Tilt Up Advantage

We asked our General Superintendent, Angel Soto, what he thought the biggest problem tilt-up helps solve for clients is, and here’s what he said:

Q: From your perspective as a General Superintendent, what is the biggest problem that tilt-up helps solve for clients?

A: the number one benefit I see is the positive impact tilt brings to job schedules, minimizes onsite traffic and bottlenecking that comes with precast allowing for other logistics and operations to be completed while panel construction is underway, gains more square footage per panel/wall and when working with insulated projects tilt provides full high, corner to corner coverage!

Q: Can you describe a specific job where the tilt-up construction went exceedingly well?

A: The Logistics Center I-83 exemplifies the benefits of Tilt, a 29-acre property surrounded by two neighborhoods, a 350k sf building with approximately 116k sf of panels, with lots of architectural details mainly at the storefront and office areas, and with an aggressive schedule, was installed. We implemented the latest technology of our industry, such as glue-down system and grade 80 rebar, to help expedite our processes while meeting the highest standards. This allowed us to complete all construction to panel rection on a 9-week window, allowing our client to continue working on other significant tasks around the site, helping them meet their customer needs.

Q: What makes tilt-pp such a cost-effective method?

A: GCs have the ability to have different trades working simultaneously on different activities, minimizing downtime and gaining calendar days to complete a project, most of the time allowing owners to lease or occupy the building when expected or sooner.

Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of a tilt-up project?

A: The quality of the final product, you can almost reflect a dream building on a tilt wall!

Q: How does the quality of a tilt-up structure compare to other building methods in your experience?

A: With today’s engineering and advanced technology, tilt is very competitive with most methods:

  • We can set panels on top of panels for a multi-story building
  • We can set panel on top of CIP walls
  • We can make any shape, thickness, or size
  • Endless variety of facades
